Lance Y. Kinzer attended Wheaton College in Illinois and returned to his home state for law school at the University of Kansas.  Lance served four years on active duty as a captain in the U.S. Army JAG Corps and then joined Schlagel Gordon & Kinzer, LLC as an associate in 1999.  Lance was made a member of SGK in 2003.  Lance was selected by the Kansas City Business Journal as a “Best of the Bar” award recipient for civil and commercial litigation in 2006, as annually awarded to a select group of attorneys as chosen by their peers.  He has a BV rating with Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.

Lance’s practice encompasses all aspects of civil litigation, including appellate work.  He has significant experience in appellate briefing and argument before the Kansas Courts of Appeals. In addition to his training in the law, Lance has received extensive training in mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods.

Lance is a member of the Kansas State House of Representatives where he has served since 2004.  Lance is vice-chair of the House Judiciary Committee and served as Chairman of the Joint Interim Committee on the Judiciary in 2006.   He is currently a Commissioner on the Kansas Criminal Code Recodification Commission and serves on the Kansas Judicial Council Advisory Committee on End of Life Issues. Lance has also served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Kansas.

Lance routinely provides continuing legal education classes on legislative issues to both judges and attorneys. He is a member of the Johnson County and Kansas Bar Associations, as well as various civic organizations in his community.
